How to get a US Visa?

While individual differences may differ slightly, here are the basic steps you should follow and what you can expect throughout the Visa application process.

Temporary Visitors to the U.S:

Visa waiver travelers from ALL 27 Visa Waiver Program countries must present a machine-readable passport at the U.S. port of entry to enter the U.S. without a visa; otherwise a U.S. visa is required.

Nonimmigrant visas are for international travelers, (citizens of other countries), coming to the U.S. temporarily.

Important points to remember:
  • Review your visa status, and find out if you need a U.S. visa or a renewal.
  • Review the visa wait time’s information for interview appointments, available on the govt. website.
  • Plan on an interview at the embassy or consulate, which is required for most visa applicants.

Visa Information for Immigrants:

An Affidavit of Support form is required for most family-based and some employment based immigrants to show there is adequate means of financial support in the U.S., by the petitioner or other sponsor(s) for the immigrant.
