How to renew your US visa

Individuals who are in diplomatic status in the U.S. (A1-2, G1-4, or NATO1-6 visas) and their dependents may renew their visas while in the United States, while those in A-3, G-5, or NATO-7 status, are required to apply at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate abroad for a new visa.

Apart from the above all applicants aged 14 - 79 must appear in person at the US Embassy to renew their visa.

DOCUMENTS:
  • A visa application form (DS-156) for each applicant.
  • A DS-157 application for all male 16-45 year olds and all applicants born in or citizens of Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Sudan, Syria and Libya.
  • A passport, valid for 6 months after the expected date of entry into the U.S.
  • One recent passport photograph
  • Supporting documents is helpful to show evidence of your intent to return home after your visit to the U.S.
  • The original I-94, Arrival- Departure Record
  • Fee as applicable
  • One visa application form DS-1648, Application for A, G or NATO visa
