Teaching Opportunities in America

For those who meet the strict immigration criteria teaching in America will likely be the most challenging and rewarding career experience of foreign teachers, provided they have patience and persistence and are willing to adapt and adjust to an entirely new education system.

Teachers can also enroll in the Visiting International Faculty (VIF) program which is the United States’ largest cultural-exchange program for teachers and schools. English language teachers can obtain the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification which is the major EFL qualification required to teach English abroad. No previous teaching experience or specialist qualifications are required. The only requirement is fluency in English.

REQUIREMENTS:

Normally, a bachelor's degree with a major in a certifiable area (English/language arts, fine arts, science, math, etc.) is a minimum requirement, along with rigorous coursework in pedagogical methods and practical field experiences as "student teachers." Each state however has its own teacher licensing requirements, and you would do well to make sure you are familiar with the requirements in the state you wish to work.

In general, teachers will fall under the ‘E3’ (Employment Third Preference) category for work related visas within the U.S.
